Wreck with truck injures SoBo officer

A 43-year-old South Boston police sergeant was injured Friday morning in a two-vehicle wreck that occurred at 9:13 at the intersection of State Route 129 and Route 9180 in front of Halifax County High School.

Sgt. Freddie M. Edmunds Sr. was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala owned by the Town of South Boston and was stopped in the turning lane awaiting a signal to turn left onto Route 9180 when he was struck by a 2006 Freightliner Century Class S/T driven by 53-year-old Paula A. Dedek of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, according to an accident report filed by Investigating State Trooper P. W. Leath.

Leath said the accident occurred when Dedek attempted to turn left onto Route 129 and turned too quickly striking Edmunds’ police car.
Leath charged Dedek, who was not injured, with improper turning.

The Freightliner was not damaged, but the Impala sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage, according to the accident report.
