South Boston police continue search for robbery suspect

Police are searching for a man who robbed the South Boston Wendy’s Monday morning. South Boston Police officers were dispatched to Wendy’s on Old Halifax Road at 9:08 a.m. Monday for a holdup alarm, according to Investigator R. E. Redd.

When officers arrived they spoke with the manager who said she was attempting to take the Sunday night proceeds to the bank for deposit, Redd said.

As she was walking to her vehicle with the moneybag, someone grabbed her, knocked her to the pavement, stole the moneybag containing an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

Officers began a search of the area, assisted by the Virginia State Police and deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s Lieutenant S. M. Bowen and his K-9, “Reggie,” also assisted in the search, Redd added.

The dog picked up the scent and trailed the suspect behind the old Lowes building into the woods to the Love Shop Trailer Park, where he lost the trail.

The suspect is described as a tall, thin black male wearing dark trousers and a light colored shirt, Redd said.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the South Boston Police Department at 434-575-4273.
