Halifax County School Board strategic plan ready for adoption

Members of the Halifax County School Board goal setting committee met Monday at the School Board Office Conference Room to finish their discussion of the board’s goals and objectives for the 2010-2015 strategic plan.

The committee includes ED-5 representative Dr. Roger Long, ED-4 representative Joe Gasperini, ED-3 representative Kim Farson and ED-2 representative Karen Hopkins.

Halifax County School Board’s 2010-2015 strategic plan includes a vision, mission statement, motto, goals, objectives and strategies.

The vision says, “Halifax County Public Schools will become a model school system which provides innovative opportunities and academic challenges to all students.”

Its mission statement says, “The mission of Halifax County Public Schools is to provide for students an educational environment that is stable and safe with caring and well-trained teachers and to provide resources needed to enable the students to compete in a global community.”

Halifax County Public Schools motto is “Children First For Our Future.”

The 2010-2015 strategic plan also includes five goals: 1. Increase academic achievement for all students; 2. Provide students and staff with a safe and caring school environment; 3. Recruit, retain and support effective administrators, teachers and staff; 4. Provide equitable facilities and develop a financial plan that accurately reflects system wide needs; and 5. Create an environment of mutual respect, cooperation and open communication through partnerships with parents, businesses and the community at large.

Committee members will present the 2010-2015 strategic plan to school board members for approval at their Oct. 14 meeting at Cluster Springs Elementary School.
