Woman escapes injuries in wreck with tractor-trailer

A 91-year-old Alton woman escaped injury in a two-vehicle accident that occurred Friday afternoon on Highway 58 at the intersection of Piney Grove Road (State Route 751).

Shirley L. Collie was driving a 2003 Ford Focus when she pulled from Piney Grove Road into the path and was struck by a westbound 2006 Freightliner tractor-trailer owned by R. O. Harrell and operated by 29-year-old Jonathan Lee Best of Alton, according to an accident report filed by investigating State Trooper K. R. Martin.

No injuries were reported in the wreck, but damage was extensive with the Focus listed as a total loss sustaining $10,000 in damage, and damage to the tractor trailer estimated at $1,500.

Martin charged Collie with failure to yield the right of way.
