Halifax County deputies probe larceny, break-in

Halifax County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a larceny from a Vernon Hill farm, according to Sheriff Stanley Noblin.

Jimmy Rutherford of Mountain Road reported someone had stolen a 2,800-PSI Craftsman pressure washer and a 40-gallon air compressor from a shed on his farm, Noblin said.

Rutherford said he is unsure when the items were taken, he added.

Deputy J. P. Adams is the investigating officer.

Owen Miller reported someone kicked open a door to a house he owns on Piney Grove Road in Alton sometime last week, Noblin said.

A search of the house revealed nothing was taken during the incident, the sheriff added.

Deputy J. M. Burton is investigating.

• In other law enforcement matters, a 40-year-old Scottsburg man is facing a felony firearm charge, according to sheriff’s office records.

Paul Rayburn Mabe Jr. of Clays Mill Road was charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The offense allegedly occurred Tuesday, and Sgt. T. C. Spencer served the warrant that night.

• Floyd Leslie Crider, 67, Sweeney Trail, Halifax, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a family or household member. He also was charged with misdemeanor making threats to another over the telephone.

The assault offense allegedly occurred May 21, and Sgt. D. H. Barksdale served the warrant Wednesday. The threats offense allegedly occurred Tuesday, and Deputy Adams served the warrant Tuesday.

• Kelly Edwin Moore, 50, Union Church Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor trespassing.
The offense allegedly occurred Monday, and Deputy C. A. Bates served the warrant Tuesday.

• William Spencer Stanley, 29, Parsons Farm Road, Vernon Hill, was charged with misdemeanor vandalism-damaging property belonging to another person.

The offense allegedly occurred Wednesday, and Deputy T. H. Clarke served the warrant that night.

• Robin Lynn McKinney, 45, Union Church Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor drunk in public.

The offense allegedly occurred Monday, and Deputy S. W. Gilliam served the warrant that night.

• Theresa Bailey Canada, 40, Bane Street, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor failure to appear in court.

The offense allegedly occurred Tuesday, and Deputy Burton served the warrant Wednesday.

•  Thomas Bryant Holland, 20, Brentwood Drive, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred April 30, and Sgt. Barksdale served the warrant Wednesday.

• Jason Lance Jones, 27, Pine Lane, South Boston, was served a capias alleging he violated the terms of his probation on a felony charge.

The offense allegedly occurred Aug. 18, and Deputy Burton served the warrant Wednesday.

• Toshiba Shawnay Jones, 20, Oak Level Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Monday, and Deputy Adams served the warrant Tuesday.

• Denisha Morton, 22, Sinai Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Monday, and Deputy Adams served the warrant Tuesday.

• Thomas Othell Thompson Jr., 40, Wyatt Farm Road, Axton, was served a capias alleging he violated the terms of his probation on a felony charge.

The offense allegedly occurred Sept. 12, 2008, and another law enforcement agency served the capias Tuesday.

• Donald Ray Henderson Jr., 34, Dallas Avenue, Danville, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.
The offense allegedly occurred Nov. 13 of last year, and the warrant was served Wednesday.
