Town of Halifax ready to get jammin’ — again

All roads lead to the Halifax Farmers Market Friday night for the second Friday Night Jams.

“We’ll have great live music beginning at 6 p.m. with Walker Abbott, Maryanne Austin and Nelly Zamora-Jones,” said Erin Shaughnessy, Halifax events coordinator.

The inaugural Friday Night Jams on July 30 was well attended, and Shaughnessy said she is looking for the same this Friday. “Last time the crowd ranged from newborn to 80-plus,” she said. “We hope to keep such a wide variety of attendees.”

Shaughnessy said there would be a number of activities for the youngsters.

“Kids will have an opportunity to make bird feeders, and we’ll have musical instruments there so they can jam with the musicians,” she explained. “We’ll also have hula hoops, sidewalk chalk and water balloon yo-yos.”

There also will be things for the grownups, Saughnessy said. “Farmers market vendors will be there,” she said. “There’ll also be fresh strawberries, fresh baked goods, crafted goods, fresh herbs and local artisans.

“And those 21 and older can enjoy sampling southern country wines with Bright Meadows Farm Vineyard and Winery,” she added.

“We have the school supply collection drive again,” Shaughnessy explained. “And we’re going to donate the supplies to various schools in the county.”

As always, there will be plenty of food available, and Shaughnessy urges everyone to come hungry.

“We’ll have yummy food by Maria’s concessions,” she said. “There’ll be hot dogs, hamburgers, baloney burgers with onions and peppers, fish plates and all sorts of good things to eat,” she added.
