Task Force arrests six juveniles in ‘assault by mob’

Members of the Halifax/South Boston Regional Narcotics and Gang Task Force arrested six juveniles Tuesday who allegedly were involved in an “assault by mob” that occurred on July 19, according to Special Agent M. T. Campbell, Task Force coordinator.

Officers with the Virginia State Police, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, South Boston Police Department and the Virginia Department of Corrections assisted the Task Force in the arrests, Campbell said.
In addition, the law enforcement agencies executed six search warrants at various locations in the Town of South Boston and Halifax County directly related to the individuals who were arrested, Sp. Agent Campbell explained.

Three of the juveniles were taken directly to W.W. Moore Detention Center in Danville on detention orders, Campbell said. The remaining three juveniles were taken before Judge M. M. Rand in Halifax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for detention hearings and then released to a parent or guardian, he added.

Sp. Agent Campbell said he could not release any further information because more arrests are pending further investigation.

Campbell said the Task Force and other law enforcement agencies would like to thank citizens who provided information on this case.

In other law enforcement matters, a 52-year-old Danville man is facing a felony unauthorized use charge, according to Halifax County Sheriff’s Office records.

Patrick Dale Snead of Stephens Street was charged with one count of felony unauthorized use of a motor vehicle valued at $200 or more.

The offense allegedly occurred Tuesday, and another law enforcement agency served the warrant the same day.

Edna Townes, 38, Sinai Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

The offense allegedly occurred Sunday, and Deputy T. B. Sargent served the warrant Monday night.

Carroll Louis Barksdale, 54, Back Street, Halifax, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a family or household member.

The offense allegedly occurred Tuesday, and Cpl. P. C. Clayton served the warrant Wednesday.

Corey Tremaine Lewis, 23, Stage Coach Road, Nathalie, was charged with two misdemeanors, including drunk in public and non- payment of a fine.

The drunk in public offense allegedly occurred Tuesday, and the non-payment of a fine offense allegedly occurred Aug. 4.

Deputy J. M. Burton served the warrants Tuesday night.

Tia Leontionette M. Crisp, 30, Dryburg Road, Scottsburg, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Monday, and Deputy D. L. Medley served the warrant Wednesday.

Sherri Hughes Hackney, 37, Bates Trail, Nathalie, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Aug. 12, and Cpl. C. S. Yeatts served the warrant Tuesday.

Drew C. Saunders, 24, Coles Ferry Road, Nathalie, was charged with misdemeanor failure to pay a parking ticket.

Cpl. Clayton served the warrant Wednesday.
