A 38-year-old South Boston man faces two felony charges including eluding and assaulting a police officer and six misdemeanor charges stemming from a Friday afternoon chase that led authorities from Dan River Church Road to the News Ferry community.
According to Major T. E. Logan of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Christopher Robert McNamee of Huell Matthews Highway was charged with brandishing a firearm, assault and battery of family or household member, carrying a concealed weapon, eluding police, assault and battery, DUI, driving while drinking alcohol and refusing a blood/breath test.
Logan said a warrant charging assault of his wife had been issued for McNamee earlier in the day Friday, and Deputy T. B. Sargent was enroute to serve the warrant when he met McNamee.
When Sargent attempted to stop McNamee on Dan River Church Road to serve the warrant, Logan said McNamee failed to stop.
The officer pursued McNamee receiving assistance from fellow deputies and law enforcement officers with the South Boston and Halifax Town Police Departments, Logan said.
The chase continued into the News Ferry community where Logan said McNamee jumped out of the vehicle and ran before being captured and arrested by Sargent.
No one was injured during the chase, Logan added.
