Funeral services for The Gazette-Virginian owner and publisher Keith A. Shelton will be held today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in South Boston.
Shelton died Saturday evening at the age of 74.
Born in Pittsylvania County, November 10, 1935, he was the son of the late O. Lynn Shelton and Exie Hembree Shelton and was married to Linda Seamster Shelton, who survives.
Mr. Shelton was owner and publisher of The Gazette-Virginian newspaper in South Boston and The News Progress newspaper in Chase City.
He was on the board for the South Boston-Halifax County Museum, was a past president of the United Way, past advisor and board member of Furman University and a member of the Paladin Club of Furman University.
He was also in the Virginia National Guard and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Betsy S. Eller and husband, Brent, of Raleigh, N.C., Beth Tingen and husband, Stacy, of South Boston and Sarah Shelton of Halifax; five grandchildren, Payne and Ben Eller of Raleigh, Amanda Long, and Ryan and Chase Tingen, all of South Boston; and one brother, Cary Shelton and wife, Candi, of Glen Allen.
Officiating at the funeral services for Mr. Shelton this afternoon will be the Revs. Don Bryant and Dave Anderson. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
