The 30th Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival drew a large crowd of over 3,000 to the Halifax County Fairgrounds on a scorching hot Friday evening.
The Halifax County Chamber of Commerce event served up plenty of food, music and fun enjoyed by festival-goers of all ages.
In addition to lots of cantaloupes, refreshing ice cream and fresh fruit also were a hit with the crowd Friday.
Barbecue, country ham rolls, homemade potato chips, southern style slaw, marinated cucumbers and tomatoes and corn on the cob completed the menu, and beverages from Blue Ridge Beverage were served throughout the evening event.
Nothin’ Fancy took to the stage at 4 p.m., followed by The Castaways, The Pizazz Band, and headlining the event was Cravin’ Melon.
Chamber President Nancy Pool said organizers were “very pleased with the crowd” with this year’s event.
Pool added, “Despite the heat we had a good turnout.”
She also said, “It was warm, but there was plenty of water, ice cream and cantaloupe.”
Also, Pool expressed appreciation to “the great volunteers and sponsors for being so generous.”
