Authorities were searching Tuesday for Charles Coleman, an 82-year-old South Boston man, last seen leaving a revival service at Spanish Grove Baptist Church in Scottsburg Monday night, Major T. E. Logan of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said.
Logan said a nationwide “Be On The Lookout” (BOL) was issued Tuesday morning for Coleman, who left church driving a four-door 1999 Cadillac Deville bearing Virginia tags JBD-8184.
Described as five foot, four inches tall and weighing 135 pounds, Coleman was last seen wearing a black suit and red shirt.
According to Logan, Coleman’s wife reported him missing Monday night after he failed to return to his McPhail Drive home following the revival service.
Family members said Tuesday Coleman suffered from no known medical conditions.
A police helicopter spent much of Tuesday afternoon flying over the Scottsburg area as the search for Coleman continued.
“We are searching wooded areas in the event his car may have run off the road,” Logan said.
As the search continued, three of Coleman’s nieces, Iretha Desouza of Danville, and Lavon Stewart and Margaret Pounds of South Boston, were distributing flyers throughout the county Tuesday afternoon in hopes someone may have seen their uncle.
