Vernon Hill Man Guilty Of Explosives, Firearms Charges

A 51-year-old Vernon Hill man pleaded guilty Thursday in Halifax County Circuit Court to two felonies after reaching a plea agreement with the Commonwealth.

William Bass Womack pleaded guilty to possessing explosives as a convicted felon and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Pursuant to the plea agreement with the Commonwealth, the court sentenced the defendant to five years in prison for each offense, with all time suspended on the explosives charge and none suspended on the firearms charge.

The court ordered the suspended portion of Womack’s sentence be conditioned on his good behavior for five years and ordered him placed on probation for one year following his release.

The court additionally ordered Womack to submit to random drug tests.
