Man Severely Injured In Bush Hog Accident

A 53-year-old Crystal Hill man was severely injured in a farming accident Monday night, according to Halifax County Sheriff Stanley Noblin. Lowell Fallen Jr. of Newbill School Road was bush hogging his field near the edge of the highway around 8 p.m. Monday, Noblin said.

Fallen apparently was thrown from the tractor at the highway ditch line and was run over by the bush hog, severely injuring his lower legs, the sheriff said.

A passing motorist noticed Fallen waving to him from the ditch line. The motorist stopped, turned off the tractor and called 911, Noblin said. Sheriff’s office personnel, EMS and Triangle Volunteer Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and were able to speak with Fallen, he added.

Fallen was airlifted by Duke Life Flight from the scene to Duke University Medical Center, where he was reported in fair condition Tuesday, according to a Duke spokesperson.
