The South Boston Department of Motor Vehicles Customer Service Center at 2039 Hamilton Boulevard will be closed the morning of Thursday, June 17, until 1 p.m. for technology upgrades. When offices are closed, customers may continue to conduct DMV business through www.dmvNOW.com, DMV's automated telephone service at 1-888-337-4782 or the mail.
South Boston-area customers who wish to complete DMV transactions in person before 1 p.m. on June 17 may visit the Danville DMV office at 600 Cleveland Street or the Altavista Customer Service Center at 1301-H Main Street.
For in-person transactions such as license plates, decals or titles, customers may visit the Charlotte Courthouse DMV Select at 205 David Bruce Avenue, the Chatham DMV Select at 17 South Main Street or the Nathalie DMV Select 5018 Stage Coach Road. Driver's license transactions cannot be processed at DMV Selects.
The South Boston DMV office will reopen at 1 p.m. on June 17 using a new, "take-a-number" customer queuing system called Q-flow. DMV's 12-year-old queuing system is being replaced by the next generation of technology at each DMV office from now through the end of June. The new queuing system will improve DMV's efficiency and effectiveness in providing better customer service.
