Single-Vehicle Wreck Snarls Traffic In SoBo

Traffic was rerouted in South Boston Friday night around 8 p.m. following a single-vehicle crash on Wilborn Avenue that occurred near Crowell Motor Company.

EMS personnel transported the injured to Halifax Regional Hospital as police and other emergency services personnel worked to clear the street.

Details of the accident were not available from the South Boston Police Department as of press time Sunday.

A Nathalie man has been charged with DUI following the crash of a four-wheeler Saturday night, according to Sheriff Stanley Noblin.

Grant C. Totherow, 39, of Chestnut Road was charged after the four-wheeler he was operating crashed, injuring a passenger who was riding on a trailer behind the four-wheeler, Noblin said.

Sgt. D. H. Barksdale was called to the area of Millstone Grocery on L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway around 8 p.m. Saturday for a report of a four-wheeler riding on the highway, the sheriff said.

Barksdale was on Chestnut Road when he met the four-wheeler coming toward him on the highway, pulling a trailer carrying two individuals, Noblin said.
When Barksdale turned around to stop the four-wheeler, it accelerated away from him, the sheriff added.

Shortly after, Barksdale came upon the four-wheeler where it had wrecked. One individual was unconscious and was hanging partially off the trailer, Noblin said.
The other two were apprehended in the woods where they had fled from the crash scene.

The unidentified injured passenger was airlifted to a Lynchburg hospital, the sheriff added.
