Strike Three: Yet Another Halifax County Business Hit

A pair of armed robbers escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash Monday night after they held up another county convenience store, according to Halifax County Sheriff Stanley Noblin.

A call came in at approximately 11 p.m. Monday from the Valero station at 2070 Philpott Road, South Boston, Noblin said. The lone clerk on duty at the store reported two men wearing all black clothing, gloves and stocking caps that covered their faces came into the store, brandished a handgun at him and demanded all the money from the cash register, the sheriff said.

The clerk said he could see enough of the duo’s skin around the eyeholes in the stocking masks to determine they were black males, Noblin said.
After the clerk handed over money from the cash register, the two men left the store running east toward Clayton Homes, the business adjacent to the Valero store, Noblin said.

A tracking dog from the sheriff’s office tracked the men to the parking lot of Clayton Homes, where it was apparent a vehicle had left the lot spinning tires in the gravel, the sheriff said.

Officers from the South Boston and Halifax police departments also responded to the scene, Noblin said. Deputy T. B. Sargent is the investigating officer.

This incident comes just two days after two men wearing black clothing robbed the Friendly Corner Store in Halifax at gunpoint Saturday night. A lone suspect dressed in black robbed the South Boston Jiffy Store on John Randolph Boulevard at gunpoint the night of Tuesday, March 23.

Anyone with information about any of these crimes is asked to call the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office at 434-476-3334, the South Boston Police Department at 434-575-4271, or the Halifax Police Department at 434-476-2526.
