Southern Virginia Higher Education’s (SVHEC) Board of Trustees has recognized former Chairman Bobby Howard for his years of service and support while heading the organization. At its meeting last Wednesday, the SVHEC trustees unanimously voted to recognize the contributions of the outgoing board chairman.
Howard was presented with a resolution of appreciation for his years of distinguished service as the board’s chairman.
President of the Bank of Charlotte County, Howard stepped down as board chairman on Dec. 31 after serving honorably for five years. He is the board’s longest serving chairman and a dedicated supporter of the SVHEC.
The SVHEC Board of Trustees is a 15-member board composed of regional leaders in education, business and industry.
William E. Coleman, who formerly served as the board of trustees’ vice-chairman and recently retired as chief executive officer of Tri-County Community Action Agency, is the current board chairman.
All board members and officers serve on a voluntary basis.
“In 20 years of working with educational boards, I have never been involved with a more engaged group of board members,” said SVHEC Executive Director Dr. Betty Adams. “I feel extremely fortunate to have served under Mr. Howard during my first year as executive director and look forward to working with Mr. Coleman -- a community icon -- in the future.”
The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is advancing the region by developing educational partnerships and opportunities.
