Changes are in the works at the Vulcan rock quarry in South Boston.
According to John English, manager of public affairs in Vulcan Materials corporate office in Birmingham, Alabama, Southside Materials, LLC is currently performing customary due diligence assessments of the Vulcan rock quarry and is expected to complete the transaction by March 29.
English said the buy-sell agreement was signed Feb. 18.
English said Southside Materials and Vulcan Materials are working closely for a smooth transition for the employees at the South Boston facility.
Southside Materials, LLC spokesman M. J. O’Brien said the Salem-based company is currently meeting with and interviewing employees individually at the South Boston rock quarry.
At this point, O’Brien said the transition should have no effect on the dozen or so employees at the South Boston facility.
“We do hope we can retain them all,” O’Brien said. “We’re a people business, and that’s our main product, Our secondary product is stone, but we can’t do anything without good people.”
In addition to acquiring the South Boston rock quarry, O’Brien said Southside Materials, LLC has entered into an agreement to purchase the Chatham and Shelton Quarries.
