Candidates continue to qualify for the May councilmanic elections, according to Halifax County Registrar Judy Meeler. South Boston Town Council members Coleman Speece, Ed Owens and Bill Snead have turned in the required certificate of candidate qualifications and the declaration of candidacy to the county registrar’s office, Meeler said.
In the Town of Halifax race, Gilbert F. (Dick) Moore has turned in the necessary documents to run for mayor, the registrar said.
In addition to Moore, Tommy Reagan in Ward B, Jack Dunavant in Ward C and Phil J. Hammond Jr. in Ward D have turned in the required documents to the county registrar’s office, Meeler added.
The Halifax Town Council seat for Ward A also is up for election in May. Cabel Daniel currently serves on council from Ward A.
In the Town of Virgilina race, Mayor Ralph O. Murray Jr. has turned in the necessary documents to run for mayor, according to the registrar.
In addition to Murray, Kirke C. Hooper, R. Owen Murray Sr., Jason H. Johnson, Thomas Keith Tuck Jr., Catherine A. Ellixon, Tammy H. Elliott and R. Edward Chandler Jr. are the candidates who have filed the necessary paperwork to vye for the five town council seats in Virgilina.
Meeler said the deadline for candidates to submit qualifications is Tuesday.
