Alton Man Shot, Killed

A 27-year-old Alton man was killed, and two Danville men were wounded in a shooting Saturday morning in Danville, according to Danville Police Capt. M. V. Carter.

Derrick Jose Harris was pronounced dead at approximately 3:22 a.m. by Danville Regional Medical Center (DRMC) staff, Carter said.

At approximately 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Danville police responded to a call for shots fired at Pulley Automotive on Kentuck Road, the captain said.

When officers arrived at the scene they did not find anyone injured, but shortly after the call was received individuals began arriving at the DRMC Emergency Department with gunshot wounds, Carter said. A 19-year-old male and a 28-year-old male sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the incident.

Capt. Carter said Harris’ body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke Saturday morning for an autopsy.

The Crime Scene Search Unit and Investigations Division personnel responded to the scene and are continuing their investigation of the incident, Carter said.

Raheem Montaz Knight, 21, of Danville was arrested and charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle, Carter said. He is being held without bond in the Danville City Jail.
