Thieves Target Cluster Springs Construction Site

Halifax County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a construction site near Cluster Springs Monday morning for a reported theft, according to Sheriff Stanley Noblin. Jerry W. Moore, who owns a construction firm from Martinsville, reported someone stole six aluminum ladders and four workbenches from the construction site at the intersection of Huell Matthews Highway and Carrington Trail, Noblin said. The items were stolen sometime between 5 p.m. Friday and Monday morning when workers arrived at the site, he added.

Deputy T. B. Sargent is investigating.

In other law enforcement matters, a South Boston man is facing two felony assault charges, according to sheriff’s office records.

• Michael James Ashe, 24, of Marshall Avenue was charged with two felony counts of assault and battery of a family or household member.

The offenses allegedly occurred Sunday. South Boston Police Sgt. S. L. Warf served one warrant, and Halifax Police Lt. D. D. Irby served the other.

w Arnold Johnson Crawley, 64, Cluster Springs Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a family or household member following an incident that allegedly occurred Monday.

Deputy T. H. Clarke served the warrant that night.

• Leslie Leroy Mills, 62, Pine Heights Trail, Halifax, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a family or household member.

The offense allegedly occurred Thursday, and Sgt. D. H. Barksdale served the warrant that day.

• Jacob Isaac M. Gatlin, 22, Oak Lane, Halifax, was charged with misdemeanor DUI and also with misdemeanor failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

The warrants were served Friday by Halifax Police Officer W. G. Yancey.

• Brent Sheron Betts, 31, Memorial Drive, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Feb. 8, and Deputy S. Britton served the warrant Friday.

• James Michael Francis, 35, Huell Matthews Highway, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Feb. 10, and Sgt. Q. W. Clark served the warrant Sunday.

• Michael Antwan Henderson, 22, Ball Park Loop, Halifax, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Jan. 25, and Deputy C. S. Yeatts served the warrant Tuesday.

• Jerry Messiah Lacks, 35, Wards Drive, Hampton, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Feb. 8, and Deputy J. M. Burton served the warrant Tuesday.

• Monti Adonnis Person, 31, Kennon Drive, Danville, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Feb. 8, and Halifax Police Lt. Irby served the warrant Sunday.
