Arrest Made In Slashing

A 45-year-old Alton man faces two felony charges following a fight and cutting incident Saturday, according to Halifax County Sheriff’s Investigator J. D. Clay.

Kenneth Johnson Harris of Hendrick’s Lane was charged with felony malicious assault. Harris also faces a felony firearm charge.

Clay said a fight at a card game at 5130 Bill Tuck Highway Saturday resulted in 24-year-old Clifton Miller Jr. suffering a serious cut across the stomach area.

Sgt. T. C. Spencer was called to the scene, but when he arrived he found that Miller was en route to the hospital.

Investigators interviewed Miller at the hospital, Clay said. They later found Harris at his residence and charged him with felony malicious assault of Miller with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or kill. The investigators also noticed a firearm and ammunition at the residence, and they subsequently charged Harris with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Clay said.

Miller remains in the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, Clay said.

Sgt. Spencer and Investigator Clay handled the investigation in the two cases.
