The Crossing of the Dan 229th anniversary will be celebrated next month at the origin of the crossing now marked by this recently erected oblisk at the crossing site.
The 2010 commemoration of the 1781 historic event in the American Revolution will begin with a program at The Prizery featuring the Halifax County Middle School sixth-grade players on Thursday evening, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. The student essay contest winners also will be recognized.
The traditional wreath presentations, followed by guest speakers and other events, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, beginning at 10 a.m.
National and state SAR and DAR society officers and members will be participating. These activities will be held in the Chastain Theater at The Prizery and will be free to the public.
