A 40-year-old Halifax man was sentenced Thursday in Halifax County Circuit Court to a total effective jail term of 12 months and one year for three offenses. The court sentenced Rodney Neil Wagstaff to a 12-month suspended sentence and a $100 fine for driving without a valid operator’s license (misdemeanor), 12 months in jail and a $250 fine for misdemeanor DUI, and five years in prison, with all but one suspended, for possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance, in addition to a $200 fine.
The court additionally ordered the defendant to complete VASAP and ordered him placed on probation for two years following his release.
In another matter, the court revoked Wagstaff’s previously suspended prison sentence for a probation violation but re-suspended any new jail time.
w Michael Andrea Stovall, 41, of Halifax, pleaded no contest Thursday to a first offense for DUI.
The court sentenced Stovall to 12 months in jail, with all suspended conditioned on Stovall’s good behavior for 12 months, ordered the defendant to pay a $1,000 fine and complete VASAP, and ordered Stovall to perform 50 hours of community service.
The court additionally ordered a restricted operator’s license for Stovall for three years, with ignition interlock authorized after four months.
