South Boston Goody's Making A Comeback

Goody’s is coming back to South Boston at its original location, and the store is tentatively set to open in the Hupps Mill Plaza location on Wilborn Avenue on March 24, according to Kim Bell, Goody’s media relations spokesperson.

Since the lease has not been executed for the South Boston Goody’s, the opening date remains tentative, Bell explained.

Specialty Retailers, Inc., a subsidiary of Houston-based Stage Stores Inc., acquired the intellectual properties for Goody’s last August and plans to open the South Boston store under the Goody’s name offering affordable fashions for the family, the Goody’s spokesperson said.

Stage Stores, which operates the Bealls, Palais Royal, Peebles and Stage names, plans to open the South Boston store under the Goody’s name, but Bell added, “We will bring to the retail market a different retail blueprint from what Goody’s was. We plan to offer name brands customers are familiar with and bring in new brands.”

Such familiar names as Levi’s, Nike, Reebok, Skechers, Bear Traps, RQT, Chaps, Playtex, Vanity Fair, Health Tex and many others will be available at Goody’s in South Boston along with the store’s exclusive brands such as Rebecca Malone, Hannah, Sun River, Specialty Kids and Graphite, Bell added.

Stage Stores has its regional headquarters in South Hill.
