Charges Still Pending In Crash Involving Cruiser

Charges are pending in the crash Monday morning of a South Boston Police cruiser and a Chevrolet Tahoe, according to state police. Trooper K. R. Martin reported the 2006 Tahoe driven by 76-year-old Thomas C. “T.C.” Leggett of Halifax pulled from a stop sign into the path of a 2004 Dodge Intrepid police cruiser driven by South Boston Officer Richard L. Lawson III, 29, of Wyliesburg.

Martin said Leggett was transported by EMS personnel to Halifax Regional Hospital. He said Lawson sustained minor injuries and was taken by a fellow officer to the hospital where he was treated and released.

The crash occurred at 10:40 a.m. Monday on Route 501 (Halifax Road) at its intersection with Route 783 (Golf Course Road).

Trooper Martin estimated damages at $5,000 to each vehicle.
