Group To Hold Celebration Of King’s Life Jan. 17

The Halifax County Business and Professional Council will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday on Sunday, Jan. 17, at 3:30 p.m., First Baptist Church Ferry Street.

Rev. Frank E. Coleman, pastor-elect of First Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker, and Spanish Grove Male Chorus will render music.

The community is invited to attend the celebration as those attending remember Dr. King and his life’s work to causes of equality and social justice.

“He taught that through nonviolence and service to one another, problems such as hunger and homelessness, prejudice and discrimination can be overcome. Dr. King’s teachings can continue to guide us in addressing our nation’s most pressing needs---poverty, economic insecurity, job loss and education,” organizers of the event said.

Two community leaders will be recognized during the celebration for their leadership and service to others.
