Santa Claus arrived in style aboard this huge National Guard 7-tonner Saturday just in time for the annual Alton Christmas Parade.
Everything from floats, antique cars and trucks, cheerleaders on foot, horseback riders, the Comets marching band and much more paraded through downtown Alton on a crisp, clear, cold morning to officially usher in the Christmas season.
According to organizer Stacey Hughes, everything went perfect, and the weather was great. Although the crowd seemed lighter than usual, Hughes said all the vendors sold out of everything including stew, bake sale items and hot dogs.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and Santa was a big hit on the National Guard truck,” she added.
Plans already are under way for next year’s Alton Parade, Hughes said, with the theme to be saluting area volunteers.
