SoBo Man Pleads Guilty To Multiple Drug Charges

A 23-year-old South Boston man has pled guilty to multiple drug charges, according to Special Agent M. T. Campbell, coordinator of the Halifax/South Boston Regional Narcotics and Gang Task Force.

Andrew Howerton pled guilty in Halifax County Circuit Court Friday to five counts of distribution of crack cocaine and one count of conspiring to distribute crack cocaine, Agent Campbell said. Howerton appeared in court with his attorney, Melissa Frazier.

The court sentenced Howerton to 13 years and two months in prison, he added.

Howerton also pled guilty to a probation violation, receiving a one-year active sentence for that offense, Campbell said.

On behalf of the Halifax/South Boston Regional Narcotics and Gang Task Force, Agent Campbell expressed appreciation to the citizens of Halifax County, Town of South Boston and the Town of Halifax for their assistance in this case.

• In other law enforcement matters, Halifax County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a weekend larceny, according to Sheriff Stanley Noblin.

Sometime overnight Friday, someone stole a garden gnome from the front yard of the Cherry Hill Church Road home of Gilbert Grant Dyer III, Noblin said.

Deputy T. H. Clarke is the investigating officer.
