Halifax County Treasurer Linda S. Foster reminds county residents that the deadline for payment of county real estate and personal property taxes is Monday, Dec. 7.
Postmarks dated Dec. 7 will be accepted without penalty and interest added on personal property taxes and the second installment of real estate taxes, Foster said. Under state law, a 10 percent penalty per year and a 10 percent per annum interest rate will be added to unpaid taxes as of Dec. 8, she added.
Foster said any taxpayer who did not receive a bill on personal property taxes assessed Jan. 1, should call the county treasurer’s office at 476-3318. Any new landowners after January 1 also should call if they did not receive a bill, Foster added. Any questions on assessment value or change of address should contact the commissioner of revenue’s office at 476-3314.
Taxpayers should mail a check or money order with payment coupon to Halifax County Treasurer, P.O. Box 825, Halifax, Va. 24558.
Payments also may be made in person between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the county treasurer’s office at the Mary Bethune Office Complex, 1030 Cowford Road, Halifax.
