Fighter Flight Against Cancer fly-in this weekend

An organization formed to honor and remember those fighting cancer, Fighter Flight Against Cancer, will hold a fly-in all day Friday and Sunday and Saturday after 4 p.m. for all AMA members at the William Tuck Airport in South Boston.

DRBA’s Oct. 6 outing in Eden part of river cleanup effort

The Oct. 6 First Saturday Outing of the Dan River Basin Association will complete the cleanup of the Smith River begun in August. Meeting at 10 a.m. at Island Ford Landing, West Meadow Road, Eden, N.C. (GPS 36.502168, -79.756086), participants will float just over two miles to the confluence of the Smith with the Dan River. The take-out will be at the Eden Wildlife Access, locally known as “the Boat Landing,” a popular Dan River access point beside Bethlehem Church Road.

SVHEC offers illustration course

Starting Sept. 25, award-winning illustrator and author Ron Miller will offer The Storyteller: The Art of Illustration at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center. The course will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. for four weeks. 

Students compete in International Woodworking Fair

Halifax County High School seniors Dustin Meadors and Shonque’l Betts recently returned from competing in the WoodLINKS Ready to Assemble competition at the International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta, Ga. A third member of the design team, Jared Owen, is a freshman at Liberty University and was unable to make the trip to Atlanta because of classes.
