A Fourth of July prayer

When we set off firecrackers, eat hot dogs and burgers and otherwise celebrate the Fourth of July, let us not forget that we were founded by people of Christian faith who not only believed in God, but trusted in him for their future.  Every now and then the idea will pop up that God is dead or that we don’t need to follow his direction.  The cacophony of believers all across the world refute that by their very existence. We should do more.

Flash mob strikes again

It was at noon on Saturday that unsuspecting customers at Italian Delight in South Boston received a melodic surprise similar to the one Wal-Mart customers got several weekends ago.

County jobless rate on the rise in May

The jobless rate in Halifax County rose by three-tenths of a point in May, as fewer residents were able to find jobs. However, the county’s unemployment rate continues to remain below double digits. 

National Night Out fundraiser set July 8

There is a curious relationship between faith and works in the Christian faith.  The Bible is very clear that nothing we do will get us into heaven.  Eternal life is a gift from God, accepted through trusting in Jesus Christ as savior.
