Goat specialist to speak at Thursday’s farm tour

Dahlia O’Brien, PhD, extension small ruminant specialist at Virginia State University (VSU), will be the guest speaker Thursday evening at the Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association’s (SVMGA) Farm Tour to be held 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Heritage Farms, 14242 River Road, in the Elmo community. 

Church celebrates 200 years

This past weekend, First Cross Roads Baptist Church in Turbeville celebrated its 200th birthday. 

July 4 parade tradition stays alive in Elmo

County folks who in past years have traveled to the community of Scottsburg to witness the annual Fourth of July Parade will have an alternative this year after the Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Company cancelled its Independence Day celebration for the first time in decades.

Museum to help kids investigate their ancestry in Friday program

School’s out. Spring is warming up once again. Kids need a cool activity to get summer started, and on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, the South Boston-Halifax County Museum is hosting “Looking Under the Cabbage Leaf” with the genealogy staff.
