The Town of Halifax Farmers Market held its annual vendor meeting Jan. 30 at Halifax Town Hall. Items of discussion included the continued success and growth of the farmers market along with upcoming events that will be hosted by the farmers market this season.
According to Halifax Town Assistant Denise Barksdale, the first of many events will be the third annual rummage sale on March 22 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Anyone wishing to make donations may drop them off at Halifax Town Hall, 70 South Main Street, Halifax on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9-5 and on Wednesday from 9-1:30.
Proceeds from this rummage sale will help the market continue to host events, and provide much needed vendor equipment. All donations are tax deductible and receipts are available upon request, Barksdale said.
The market will swing into spring with its first annual Indoor Spring Bazaar on April 5 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. This event is open to all local farmers as well as local artisans, crafters and home-based/product businesses.
Vendor fee for the Spring Bazaar is $12, she said.
The market will once again host the first Saturday community yard sales beginning in May and going through September. The yard sales will begin at 8 a.m. and go through noon. Vendor fee for each community yard sale is $4, Barksdale said.
Southside Master Gardeners will join the Farmers Market again in hosting the Second Saturday Master Gardener Workshops at the market. Workshop schedule and times will be announced soon.
The public is invited to attend the grand opening celebration for the Town of Halifax Farmers Market on June 21.
The grand opening celebration will feature cooking demos, live music, door prizes, fresh produce along with fresh pasture raised meats, fresh cut flowers, baked goods, home-made soaps, lotions and much more.
The Halifax County Extension Office will partner with the farmers market to host a canning/freezing workshop. The workshop is scheduled to take place during the month of July. More information on that event will be available soon, Barksdale said.
The market will celebrate National Farmers Market Week on Aug. 9 with special events taking place at the market
The second annual Indoor Holiday Market will be open Nov. 29, Dec. 6 and Dec. 13. Time of event, application and fee will be available soon, she added.
