North Halifax VFD held its annual appreciation supper on Saturday at the firehouse.
In 2013, the department ran 527 EMS calls, 42 fire calls, and 19 public service calls. The members devoted 4,574 man hours running these calls, putting 29,718 miles on all trucks, including three ambulances.
The department welcomed six new members who joined during the year, and two new EMTs in the department with three more members taking the EMT class.
This year, the department will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The department was formed March 10, 1964, and two charter members remain on the roll, Hugh Hendricks and L. C. Fisher Jr.
The North Halifax Ladies Auxiliary formed in 1972 and currently has 45 active members.
This year, the ladies are working on many fundraisers for the department, including the turkey luncheon in March, Vera Bradley Bingo in April, the annual marathon in September and its Christmas tree lighting in December.
