Michael Wade Brown, the first baby born at Halifax Regional Hospital in 2014, was welcomed by his mother, Regina Hogan, his 2-year-old brother, Trysten Brown, and newborn nursery nurse, Wanda Bolton, RN.

William Rosche, MD delivered Michael in Halifax Regional’s Family Birthing Center at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2. The newborn weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces and measured 21 inches long.

His grandparents are Owen and Arlene Wade, Larry Hogan, Charles Brown and the late Alice Brown.

Halifax Regional’s first baby of 2014 received a large diaper bag that included a wide variety of baby care items such as bath products, wipes, a blanket, car seat safety items and onesies.

A local coalition, Smart Beginnings Southside, also participated with HRH in welcoming the First Baby of 2014.

Smart Beginnings Southside provided the new parents with information regarding immunizations, the importance of developmental screenings and how parents can foster their child’s development.

In addition, the parents received books to read to their baby and a folder for maintaining important papers. Smart Beginnings Southside provides collaborative leadership to ensure that all children enter kindergarten healthy and ready to succeed in school and in life.
