YMCA to hold open house

The YMCA South Boston/Halifax County is hosting an Open House for individuals and families to learn more about the YMCA Tuesday from noon to 7 p.m.

The public is urged to come try out a class, have fun, get information, and see what the YMCA South Boston/Halifax has to offer, said Membership Director Suzanne Wallace.

“We’re currently waiving the joining fee on the day of Open House and giving free tours,” said Wallace. “We have everything here: fitness center, martial arts, after school child care, a swim team.

“When you have a membership, all adult water and land classes are included,” she said.

The Y is open seven days a week. Hours are Monday through Thursday 5:15 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, 5:15 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.

“With a membership, you get three free personal training sessions and free babysitting if you’re working out,” said Wallace.

“We also have a very successful SilverSneaker program for people who are eligible for Medicare.  Check with your health insurance provider to see if they cover YMCA membership,” she added.

Classes offered include Zumba, yoga, pilates and bootcamp, among many others.

Register to win a one-year family membership and many other door prizes Tuesday from noon to 7 p.m., Wallace said

“Remember, there’s no joining fee, and the rest of October is free when joining during Open House on Oct. 15,” she added.
