Fall Festival supports fire department

Clover Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 24th annual fall festival Saturday kicking off with a parade through downtown Clover at 11 a.m.

Anyone interested in participating in the parade is encouraged to bring floats, classic cars, animals or four-wheelers and be a part of Clover’s fall festival parade, said Clover Fire Chief Bert Martin.

As part of this year’s annual festival the 58th Annual Southside Virginia Volunteer Firefighters Association Convention and Competition will take place.

Following the parade, events will take place at the fire station and at the ball field of the former Clover Elementary School.

The opening ceremony will begin at noon at Clover Volunteer Fire Department along with stew prepared by Clover United Methodist Church. Other items on the lunch menu include burgers, hot dogs and French fries.

Supper plates of barbecue pork or chicken from Smokin’ Jakes will be sold for $12. Also included will be green beans, potatoes, dinner rolls, sweet tea and lemonade with yellow cake with chocolate icing for dessert.

Musical entertainment will follow the opening ceremony, and for the kids, inflatable games will be set up.

On the entertainment stage will be Kermit Wright and the Goodtime Band from 12:30 to 1:30; The Satterfields from 1:30 to 2:30; Tom Cook from 2:30 to 3:30; Stony Ridge from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; Chuck Crews and guests from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Donnie Beadles and Cracked Screens from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

All day raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win a grand prize of $1,000, just in time for Christmas shopping. Also to be given away will be five consolation prizes of $150.

A fireman’s competition will get underway at 1:30 p.m. at the Clover Ball Field featuring contests including the bucket brigade, forcible entry drill, 4-man hose drill, 4-man ladder drill, 1-man hose drill, six man hose drill and the 2-man rapid intervention drill.

Contests will run throughout the afternoon concluding at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Clover Volunteer Fire Chief Bert Martin invites the public to come out for a fun day in Clover to support the local volunteer fire department.
