Halifax County Sheriff’s Office participates in event for Special Olympics

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office participated in the Pittsylvania County region of the Law Enforcement Torch Run on Wednesday to support and raise money for the Special Olympics.

Runners from City of Danville Police Department, City of Danville Sheriff’s Office, Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and Chatham Police Department started the torch run at Market Square in Danville, passed through the towns of Chatham and Gretna and passed the torch to Campbell County authorities when they crossed the Campbell County line.

The Virginia Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics unites officers from law enforcement agencies and corrections departments across the commonwealth in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics.

Organizers are already planning for the Law Enforcement Torch Run to come through Halifax County in 2014.
