Fest organizers excited about new times, venue

As the days get longer, warm thoughts begin to enter one’s mind including baseball games, cookouts, swimming pools and the 33rd Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival.

Several changes have been made to this year’s 33rd Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival including a change of scenery.

For years lope goers have flocked to the Halifax County Fairgrounds, but this year’s event will be held on the grounds of the historic Berry Hill Resort & Conference Center located in rural South Boston.

The 33rd Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival will be held on Friday, June 7.

In addition to a new venue, the hours for the 33rd Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival are 5-10 p.m. Organizers had originally wanted to transition to an after party, but after careful consideration decided to just let the party roll on into the night.

According to Cantaloupe Festival committee member Kimley Blanks, “We tossed around the idea of having an after party as part of the Cantaloupe Festival, but decided just to carry on with one continuous party.”

In order to keep the party rocking all through the evening, music will be provided by The Konnection Band and 6th N Main.

Festival organizers expect the 33rd Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival to sell out quickly and urge festival goers to pick up tickets early.

“We expect this year’s Virginia Cantaloupe Festival to top years past, especially with our time and venue changes,” added Nancy Pool, president of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.

Tickets for the 33rd Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival go on sale April 1 and are priced to move at $35 each.

The ticket price includes a variety of foods, beverages and entertainment.
