The community is invited to light up the holiday season this year on Monday, Dec. 3, as Halifax Regional Health System illuminates the Trees of Light at 5:30 p.m. in the healing garden on the campus of Halifax Regional Hospital.
“This is the second annual illumination,” said Vance Midgett, manager of Pastoral Care Services and Planetree coordinator. “We had such a successful experience with this project last year that we felt it appropriate to do it again. We encourage everyone to honor or remember someone special with a light on our Tree of Remembrance or Tree of Honor. All they need to do is let us know who they want to honor or memorialize.”
To submit a name for the Tree of Remembrance or the Tree of Honor, write down participant’s name and telephone number, the name of the person to be honored or memorialized, and either mail it to Charlene Satterfield at 2204 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston, VA 24592 or drop it off at the front desk at the hospital.
This free event includes music and refreshments. Hot cider, hot chocolate and cookies will be provided to warm the body along with the spirit.
“We are excited about this opportunity,” said Marketing Manager Olivia Epps. “We hope the community will join us on Dec. 3 for this event – a perfect way to begin December.”
“Our healing garden is a most appropriate setting for this,” Midgett said. “We would even encourage participants to return during the holiday season – or at any time – to walk the labyrinth or simply enjoy the garden’s serenity.”
