C. H. Friend High School opens first time in 59 years for reunion

Yes it is true. For the first time in 59 years and maybe the last time, former C. H. Friend High School students will have an opportunity to see the school just as they left it.

According to reunion organizer Janet Adams, a reunion is being held for all people who attended C. H. Friend High School on Marshall Avenue in South Boston between the years of 1938-1953.

“Regardless of what grade you were in while there, you are invited to attend this reunion planned for Saturday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. at the school,” Adams said.

A catered dinner will be served along with music for dancing. Other necessary essentials will be provided including set ups and soft drinks (BYOB).

Checks for $35 per person must be received by Oct. 1 and can be made payable and sent to Lloyd Dixon, 7083 Bill Tuck Highway, Virgilina, VA 24598. Those attending are asked to write their class year on the check.

“Dress is casual or dress like you did in high school,” Adams said.

Currently, reunion organizers said they need several people from each class to make contacts.

“Don’t let your class be left out,” Adams said. “Please pass the word around and call us if you have questions or would be willing to help with your class because letters are not being mailed by the organizers.”

Reunion organizers and their contact information include Jack and Bertha Jane Dunavant at 434-476-6648, Janet and Wayne Adams at 434-575-7894 and Lloyd and Betty Jane Dixon at 434-572-4285.
