The Halifax County South Boston Public Library System will be kicking off its annual Summer Reading program Saturday at the South Boston Public Library at 9:30 a.m.
The library will have “graffiti” art for teens and a magic show for kids. The show, “Dare to Dream,”will begin at 11 a.m. and is free to the public.
The theme for this year is “Dream Big, Read” and features educational events and prizes for all ages to celebrate reading and encourage learning. Some events include an astronomy lecture June 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Halifax Public Library, Nature Nation See & Touch Show, 6 p.m. at South Boston Public Library, and a ghost story writing contest for teens.
In an effort to make reading an important part of summer, the library system is offering prizes and incentives for participating in the summer reading program.
Many local businesses contributed to the library’s prize giveaways this year including passes, Kindle eReaders, tickets, gift cards and more.
Children and adults are welcome to register at either library location.
