While most other high school students remained at home resting and preparing for prom, a small group of JROTC cadets were on the move toward Yadkin, N.C. for the annual — and very last — Forbush Drill Meet recently.
Although lacking most of the senior cadets on this trip, the group of participants, commanded by Staff Sgt. Tyree Womack, managed to bring back trophies in two categories: Junior Varsity Unarmed Squad and Varsity Armed Platoon.
Even though they did not receive trophies in every category, every group competed to the best of their abilities and showed an impressive display of proficiency in drill and ceremony, according to instructor Alvin Sykes, LTC, USA (Ret.).
Of course, a group is nothing without its commander. Commanding Color Guard was Cadet PFC Tierra Stevens, accompanied by Cadets Tempriss Green, Tyler Martin and Sebastian Brion.
Commanding Junior Varsity Unarmed Squad was Cadet Sgt. Tempriss Green, who also commanded the Varsity Unarmed Squad.
Commanding the Unarmed Platoon was Cadet Sgt. Sharlae Claiborne.
Commanding Armed Squad was Cadet Capt. James Epps and commanding the Armed Platoon was Cadet Staff Sgt. Tyree Womack.
