Library spring book sale kicks off today

The Friends of the Library will hold one of its two annual book sales this week in the library of the former Halifax Elementary School on Mountain Road in Halifax. 


The spring book sale will begin with Friend’s Day, today from 3 to 8 p.m. and continue Thursday from 1 to  7 p.m., Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Bag Day, Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The big brown bags with handles for Bag Day are donated by Bill and Darnell Abbott of Abbott Farm Suppliers Inc., South Main Street in Halifax. 

Friends of the Library invite the public to attend the spring book sale, where a hard back book can be bought for $1, and on Saturday a whole bag of books may be purchased for $5.

Donations are needed. For those who make a donation at the book sale, a tax receipt will be available for the asking.

The Friends of the Library is an organization that exists exclusively for the charitable purpose to provide support to the Halifax County-South Boston Public Libraries by advising and cooperating with the library staff and trustees, promoting the knowledge of library functions, resources, services and the enrichment of the area they serve, attracting bequest and gifts of books, manuscripts, money, or other appropriate materials beyond the resources of the library budget and enlisting public and government interest in and support for our libraries.

Membership is open to individuals in sympathy with these purposes on payment of specified dues.

 Classes of membership include single, family and sponsor.

The Friends of the Library will hold its annual meeting May 15 at 7 p.m. in the Halifax Library.
