Mecklenburg linemen power through competition

Four line workers from Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative’s (MEC) Chase City District participated in The 2014 Annual Terex® Equipment Operator’s Rodeo and the Gaff-n-Go Lineman’s Rodeo in early April. They quite capably and professionally represented MEC resulting in multiple awards, according to Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative’s President and CEO John Lee.

American National reports first quarter 2014 earnings

National Bankshares Inc., parent company of American National Bank and Trust Company, has announced first quarter of 2014 net income of $3,450,000 compared to $4,151,000 for the first quarter of 2013, a $701,000 or 16.9 percent decrease.

County jobless rate shows improvement in February

The jobless rate in Halifax County dropped by  four-tenths of a point in February as more residents were able to find jobs. The county’s unemployment rate continues to remain below double digits. 

More funds flowing to former Daystrom facility

The Halifax County Industrial Development Authority has been awarded a $427,500 grant by the United States Community Advancement and Improvement Program (USCAIP) for use on Phase III of the IDA’s Southern Virginia Advanced Manufacturing Center on Greens Folly Road.
