Workshop targets top executives

Joseph A. Carey, CEO of Renaissance Executive Forums in Richmond, will be the featured speaker for a workshop exclusively for top executives to be held Feb. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Riverstone Centre on Confroy Drive in South Boston.

Carey will speak on identifying root cause roadblocks to business success, developing strategies and action plans to move forward and setting short and long-term business priorities.

Carey brings over 57 years of leadership and business management experience to the Executive Forums process having held a variety of marketing, strategic planning and management positions throughout his business career, including the positions of president and chief operating officer.

As president and chief operating officer of ABB Power T&D Company, a $1.5 billion U.S. subsidiary of Asea Brown Boveri (ABB), Carey provided the leadership and vision to achieve number one market position in the U.S.  At the same time, the company, with its 8,000 employees, was restructured so that its 70 sales offices and 30 manufacturing plants more effectively served its national and international customer base.

In his strategic planning role, Carey was responsible for developing the long-term strategy of a billion-dollar business unit and established several joint ventures as well as maquiladoras in Mexico and offshore facilities in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.  He also was instrumental in closing acquisitions that increased revenues more than $300 million.

As the CEO of Renaissance Executive Forums, he assists area entrepreneurs and business leaders by facilitating a process that keeps them abreast of current business trends, improves their quality of life, provides peace of mind, exposes them to new ideas and helps them achieve better results.  Joe brings to this process a wealth of experience in working with senior level people, facilitating effective meetings and managing structured processes.  He also does consulting and executive coaching.

Carey is a graduate of Purdue University and Lamar University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree respectively.

A person of varied interests, Carey has traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and the world, at various times being responsible for operations in 10 foreign countries.

His interests include his extended family, learning new concepts, teaching, reading, golf, college football and basketball, professional baseball and traveling.

He lives near a lake outside the southern Virginia community of Halifax with his wife, Sylvia, three grandchildren, and their Golden Retriever, DJ.

All materials and lunch are included in the $125 fee for chamber members and $150 for non-members.
