New frozen yogurt shop comes to South Boston

It’s time for frozen yogurt lovers to grab their spoons and head down to Riverdale for a tasty treat.

Mochi Frozen Yogurt shop recently opened in the Riverdale Plaza shopping center on Highway 58.

Storeowner Gong Fang Song said she decided to open a yogurt shop when she realized no yogurt shops were located in the area.

“My boys love yogurt, and we always had to go all the way to Danville or Lynchburg to get some,” Song said.

The store is opened Monday through Thursday noon to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday noon to 9 p.m.

The shop offers eight flavors of yogurt and over 40 toppings at one time. Toppings and flavors will change every two weeks, Song added. Some of the flavors now being offered include cookies and cream, cake batter, mango tango, strawberry, coconut and banana.

Yogurt costs 39 cents an ounce.

In addition to offering many unique flavors, the yogurt shop also offers cable TV and music to its customers in the shop.

Song said customers can expect fresh yogurt and describes the look of the shop as colorful and different.

Originally from China, Song has lived in the area for more than 10 years. She also owns Hong Kong Chinese restaurant, also located in Riverdale Plaza.
