Business born out of love for collecting, shopping

After working several years in the antique business, Cathy McCargo decided to put her love for collecting and the hunt for shopping into her new endeavor, Hearth and Home, the Finishing Touch.

McCargo’s new business located on 1401E. Wilborn Ave. in South Boston held a ribbon cutting Saturday at 11 a.m. with refreshments. Those in attendance were friends and family of McCargo along with South Boston Mayor Carroll Thackston and South Boston Councilwoman Tina Younger.

Business hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and closed on Sundays.

According to McCargo, her new shop is a “collective variety shop” that offers soaps, body oils, jewelry, purses, flavoring for cakes, sports accessories and more.

“I’ve always liked gift shops. It’s a little bit of things unique and not all of the same thing,” said McCargo.

“I love being a collector and the hunt, shopping to me is like hunting,” she added.
