Approximately 600,000 tourists who make their way to Halifax County each year now have a new tool to show them around town.

The Halifax County Chamber’s new mobile app, MyChamberApp, will help businesses get discovered and stay connected to their customers, according to Chamber President Nancy Pool.

“Mobile devices are the hottest thing going right now. Thousands of mobile devices are being sold each day,
new tablets similar to iPads are hitting the market and apps have become a fun and interesting way to entertain, educate and sell. It can be downloaded on any iPhone, Blackberry, Droid, or iPad for free,” Pool said.

Some 74 percent of smartphone owners used their devices to get directions and other location-related
information as of February 2012 — up from 55 percent last May, Pool said referring to information from the Pew Research Center.

The chamber president said by downloading the app, persons can access restaurants, businesses as well as lodging and recreational information.

Not only does the app list a phone number and address for the location, she said, “It also has a GPS that will help navigate you there.

“This is a great tool to get you from one chamber member to another. Halifax County has a lot to offer, whether it’s racing, golf courses, fishing camping, fine dining, museums or fine arts you are looking for,” Pool said.

Halifax County is one of 11 out of 95 counties in Virginia to offer the ‘My Chamber App.’

MychamberApp is linked and updated every night from the Chamber website, The app includes the events calendar and hot deals.

“When you touch a chamber member’s listing, it is complete with GPS-enabled driving directions and one-touch dialing,” Pool explained.

“It’s your chamber in your pocket,”  she said.
